The Hurricane of 87
In the night on
October 1987, a hurricane swept across Wanstead causing havoc and uprooting many
trees. Christchurch green lost many trees and the church roof was damaged. Many
fine trees that had lined the path for waiting parents at the church school were
uprooted at a stroke. Many people were seen wandering around taking pictures of
the devastation and children were seen playing around the roots. The Church
school was closed on that day as there was no power.
